When we interviewed the fabulous Maya from Tiffanys by Maya (Maya Couture), she mentioned that Olive and Gold would be a bridal color trend for 2008. 

Our intern, Betsy, has competed her term with us but left us with this inspiration board - LOVE IT!

As Isha mentioned in an earlier post, yellow/gold is a really hot color right now.  It goes perfectly with another popular pick too, olive, and this board brings them together with some touches of cream and brown.  I love the table setting for this board.  With the other natural elements and rustic centerpiece, the fun, bright colors on the table really balance everything out.  And asparagus as a design element? Very unique.  The cuff is another one of my favorites from an online store that showcases independent designers.  The vintage look of the jewelry goes great with the whole feel for this event.

For a different twist on olive, trying accenting if with a pale blue, lavender, peach, other shades of green, or even black and white.

Marques is all about Ashley - I love it!  Ashley is beautiful, kind and unassuming.  All she wanted was an outdoor wedding at Norfolk Botanical Garden's Renaissance Court.  The weather was magnificent on Saturday for the rehearsal!  I have never seen the garden lovelier.  The wedding took place on Sunday - misty, rainy, a mess.

Of course, we had a rain plan - the reception site, Lesner Inn.  We gave the bride as much time as possible to make the weather call.  Once the decision was made to move the ceremony there were lots of things to be done:  Call the garden, the Lesner Inn, the minister, the limo driver, photographer, and ceremony musician.  The pre-arranged guest notification was accomplished with rain plan cards informing guests of the new ceremony location and time.

Amy Templeton and the staff at Lesner were ready for us when we got there.  Our combined teams were able to respond quickly when the wind died down and we were able to give the couple the open air wedding that they always wanted.  A good time was had by all.

One at Vista Point for 200 guests included very traditional decor - chair covers, draping and lights, and varying height candelabra centerpieces. 

Our second event was held at the Silver Palate Bistro - Marcy and John Telfer, the owners, run the bistro as well as a highly successful catering business.  Our client was celebrating a second marriage and wanted to "walk into a park somewhere" with the groom and then have a party at their favorite restaurant.  They had 35 guests that they wanted to share a special dinner with.  I love the modern look of the bistro anyway.  We simply softened it up with linens and added warmth with a few flowers and candles everywhere.

Your favorite restaurant can be a great option for a unique reception.  Perhaps I'll post on what it takes to make that happen....

We've got an outdoor ceremony today and thunderstorms forecast for all day.  But we've got a great rain plan at the reception site - the Lesner Inn!  I'm sure it will be great!  Ashley and Marques are a BEAUTIFUL couple and love each other very much!  I'll post their wedding this week!

We kept it simple and decided to go fiesta with the decor!  I chose brightly colored linens, gerber daisies, and hot peppers for the table.  Dora's bracelet (with lip gloss, of course) served as napkin rings.  I was overjoyed when my girl proclaimed everything BEAUTIFUL and gave me her patented 'double-hand-to-mouth' gasp when she saw her "Princess" chair!  The menu consisted of a taco bar with taquitos, quesadillas, and chips w/salsa.  The celebration was made complete with yummy cupcakes from Mayra Rivera.

We wrapped it up with a ride on Cowshire (Hope named him) her FurReal pony from Santa, dressed as a donkey. 

The girls (and guy) had a blast and so did we!

The event was coordinated by my good friend Pearl Taylor and included a choreographed waltz on a multi-level stage, performed by the court of 30.  There was a candy bar, a photo booth, caricaturist, and musical selections by Shaggy from Z104.  Dinner was tapas, served family style.  It was amazing.

I was brought in to do floral/event design for this event about 6 months ago.  The "under the sea" theme is representative of the family's interests and can be seen throughout their magnificent home.  Mother and daughter have great taste and had key things that they wanted to incorporate - sea glass and the colors of sand and sea.  I provided those items and more - illuminated tropical centerpieces, coral, linens, custom table numbers, spandex chair covers, shapes, and projection screens and the items for the candy bar.  The lighting by Charlie Pike,  Pike Media Resource, was spectacular!  My photos do not do it justice but they will have to do until Don Monteaux provides his:

Maya pursued a career in the fashion industry in Boston, MA.  She was Director of Operations for the Gianni Versace boutique for three years and later, Ford Model Management. Maya moved to New York to work for Vera Wang at her flagship bridal house. After two months, she was promoted to Sales Manager of Vera Wang's bridesmaids' salon.

Love brought this superstar to Virginia where she became a bridal consultant for Tiffanys in August of 2003. She quickly became the top sales performer and was named General Manager in January 2004. A short six months later she bought the store and gave it her name.  Tiffanys of Norfolk became Tiffanys by Maya, and a new era was born!

Wedster:  What's new in bridal?

Maya:  We're seeing a more fitted silhouette on the runways in Chicago and New York.  Pleats and lace are also big.

Wedster:  What about strapless gowns.  Are they still popular?

Maya:  Strapless will always be popular, but designers are showing lots of cover ups - boleros, chapel veils and mantillas....

Wedster:  Besides Yellow and Gray, what are the color trends?

Maya:  Olive and Gold, White and Wheat, Sapphire and Fuschia, Black and Pewter, Pink and Green are hot!

Wedster:  You also carry tuxedos.  What's new for the men?

Maya:  We're offering chocolate tuxedos, white dinner jackets, and suits in midnight blue and linen colored which are great for destination weddings.

Coral is one of the more popular color trends in weddings for Spring and Summer.  Orange-pink hues ranging from melon to fuchsia can be paired with accents for a bright and fun occasion or for a more casual, romantic feel.  Lime green, bright fuchsia and a rich orange can make your flowers, reception, and your bridesmaids really stand out.

This inspiration board uses lighter coral tones throughout for a more casual feel.  The colors I used were inspired by the tones in the colors blocks (top row).  I loved the lighter pink and coral hues, and the orange is a great accent that really makes the colors pop.  The bridesmaids’ dresses stand out with brighter flowers and a gray sash, another great accent for coral or melon colors.  The bridal bouquet is full of roses with the same beautiful tones, while the cake and invitations tie the theme together.  To make your color stand out even more, try a signature cocktail like this peach cosmopolitan.

Yellow is really great with Navy and Orange and Olive, and Black, and Brown and....  Yellow, the new green!

Guests danced to Big Band and Jazz while sipping Mimosas and Bloody Marys.  The menu included French Toast to Frittata!  The garden was beautiful in it's winter glory.  The sun streamed in and trees stood in naked sculptural glory.  It was a wonderful day!
