Wedding Party Contest Winner...

When we read the story of Starza K. and her "bridesmen" we instantly agreed that she had a winning story.  She details how she met her attendants and what each of them means to her.  Here is an excerpt:

Dude of honour:  When the love of my life popped the question almost a year ago and I had to make the decision of who should be my Maid of Honor, I had to do some soul-searching. Should I pick some girls who I don’t really know, or should I pick one of my boys? There’s one boy in particular....  Although, I can’t really see this huge, burly, bio-medical engineer helping me make wedding favors, he’ll do it if I ask.

Batman:  When I asked him to be a part of my wedding party, the first thing he said was, “Do I have to wear a dress?” I said, “No, Batman, you don’t” and he said, “’Cause I would for you.”

Crazy Matt:  Crazy Matt is a bit of a hippie, very anti-establishment and anti-tradition. But, he was the first person to ask me how he should get the measurements for his tux. I am honored that he is a part of my wedding party.

David:  He was the first person my fiancé and I met when we moved to Norfolk.  He has become my BFF, fully and wholly since moving here. He is the perfect person to round off my wedding party.

So, I won’t be able to shop for bridesmaid dresses and I’m not quite sure what we’ll do for a bachelorette party, but I have my boys. They made me who I am today and I could only be so lucky to have these 4 boys by my side when I marry a boy that I am proud to add to their ranks.

Congratulations Starza, you are a lucky woman to be surrounded by so many great men!  Enjoy a few laughs with the boys – on us!

Choosing your wedding party

Hi everyone! Our new intern, Betsy, has just started with us. She is majoring in Communications at one of the local colleges in Hampton Roads. We are so excited to have her as part of our team.

We asked her to write her first blog and here it is... Smile

BetseyChoosing your wedding party can be a tricky task. Whether you plan on being surrounded by dozens or just a handful of special people, you  want to choose the ones that mean the most to you. Of course, there’s no right and wrong way to pick your attendants, but looking back years later, these people are those that you could never imagine not having in your wedding. Whether it’s your sister, college roommate, childhood friend, or co-worker,  you will want that person to be a special someone who can rise to the occasion.

Your bridesmaids, and specifically your maid of honor, will traditionally be in charge of numerous tasks, both on your wedding day and months before. Dress shopping, holding the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony, planning or hosting the shower and bachelorette party, bustling the dress and straightening your train, and giving a toast at the reception may be the most obvious duties, but that isn’t where the responsibilities end. You will also want your wedding party on board to help with the less glamorous things as well. Addressing invitations, spreading the word about where you are registered, helping with RSVPs, keeping record of all the gifts, taking care of your gown and keeping you happy and smiling, should also be things that they can gladly and confidently attend to.

What makes your wedding party special? What elements were important to your choices? How did you propose the idea to your attendants? Did you always plan that your sister would be your maid of honor? Does your best friend from middle school win you over with unconditional friendship and make the perfect bridesmaid? Do you know that your old roommate will be the one that will keep you laughing and dancing all night?

E-mail us and tell us your wedding party story. Let us know how your attendants will make your wedding day, and the months leading up to it, so special and you could win free tickets to a night out at The Funny Bone!

Please submit your stories to Stephanie at stephanie@ishafossevents.com by Friday February 15, 2008. The winner will be announced Saturday February 16, 2008 on Wedster. Contest: Name That Cookie!

I have always been drawn to the kitchen and have always loved to try new things. New Stephanierecipes, gadgets, you name it! Lately, I have started to develop some of my own recipes. My husband Joe is always willing to be taste tester and he always offers me his honest opinion.

When I began baking the Christmas cookies this year I came up with an idea for a new cookie. I could use some help giving this delicious cookie a name. Here is the recipe. Send us a comment with some suggestions for a name.  If we use the name you send, we'll send you 2 passes to The Hermitage Foundation, as well as lunch for 2 at Gourmet Gang!

Mystery Cookie

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Ingredients:

1 cup softened butter

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tbsp. milk

1 tsp. vanilla

2 ½ cups all purpose flour

1 package Andes mints baking chips

Beat butter for approximately 30 seconds. Add ½ cup powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Beat until combined. Gradually beat in flour.

Shape dough into 1 ½ inch balls. Press your thumb into the center of each ball. Fill center with Andes chocolate mints. Reshape into a ball. Place balls 1 inch apart on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper.

Bake for 15 minutes. Finely crush up about ½ cup of Andes chocolate mints. Combine the crushed chocolate mint bits with the remaining powdered sugar. Roll warm cookies in mixture then place on wire rack to cool.

Don't forget send us a name for this cookie and win 2 tickets to the Funny Bone Comedy Club!  Please include your e-mail address or phone number for contact. - Stephanie
